Commonly reported as working include, in the US, Chase, American Express, Discover, Wells Fargo, Navy Federal, and investment apps like Vanguard. In the UK, HSBC, Barclays, Monzo, and Starling. These are community-reported results, app versions change, and a bank that works today can tighten its checks in an update tomorrow. The technical nuance, for the curious
Play Integrity is not a single pass-or-fail gate; it has tiers. Apps that check only the basic level often work even without sandboxed Play. Apps that demand the stronger device-level check need sandboxed Play to pass. And a small subset go further still, insisting on hardware-backed attestation or running their own bespoke anti-tamper logic. Those can still refuse, and a principled hardened OS will not fake the result to get around them, because doing so would undermine the very security you switched for. So the pattern is: most apps work with sandboxed Play, a few work without it, and a stubborn handful will not work at all.
What genuinely does not work
Two honest hard limits, so there are no surprises.
Google Pay and phone tap-to-pay do not work, and they are not going to. Contactless payment from the phone requires system-level access to the secure payment hardware that the OS deliberately refuses to expose, and that refusal is a security feature. The fix is boring and completely functional: tap your bank’s physical contactless card instead. If paying with your phone at the register is non-negotiable for you, know this before you switch.
A small number of apps with hardware-attestation or custom anti-tamper checks still refuse to run. This tends to hit a few niche banks and certain enterprise or DRM-protected apps rather than the mainstream. And occasionally an app update will change its checks and briefly break something until the community documents a workaround.

Search it for your bank’s name and read the recent reports. Between that tracker, the GrapheneOS community channels, and current user posts, you can answer “will my bank work” with real, up-to-date evidence rather than a guess, before you commit to anything.
