Edge TAK Server Privacy Policy

SpicyCorp (“we,” “us”) provides Edge TAK Server (the “App”), an Android application that runs a self-contained, TAK-compatible situational-awareness server on your own device. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the App.
The short version: Edge TAK Server is local-first. SpicyCorp operates no cloud service that receives your data, and the App does not send your personal data to us or to any third party. Everything the App does happens on your device and on the network you control.
Information the App handles
All of the following is processed on your device and shared only with the devices you deliberately connect to your server. None of it is transmitted to SpicyCorp.
- Location data. If you enable location features, the App shares your device’s position with the TAK clients you connect to your server, for situational awareness. This is sent only to devices on your own network that you have authorized — never to SpicyCorp.
- Situational-awareness (CoT) data. Positions, messages, and markers exchanged between connected devices pass through the server running on your device. If you turn on the optional session-capture feature, this data is stored locally in the App’s private storage on your device.
- Security credentials. The App generates certificates and cryptographic keys on your device to secure connections. They are stored on your device (protected by the Android Keystore, hardware-backed where the device supports it) and are never transmitted to us.
- Network information. The App uses local network and device network information (such as IP addresses) as needed to run the server and connect devices on your network.
- Overlay-network credentials. If you choose to use the optional embedded overlay network, the authentication key you provide is stored encrypted on your device and used only to establish that network connection. It is not sent to SpicyCorp.
What we do not do
- We do not collect analytics or usage data.
- We do not include advertising or ad networks.
- We do not track you or build a profile of you.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We operate no cloud service that receives your data.
Data sharing
The only sharing that occurs is between your device and the other devices you choose to connect to your server (for example, your team’s ATAK clients) over your own local network or private network. You control which devices connect. No data is shared with SpicyCorp or with third parties.
Third-party components
The App includes open-source components, including an embedded overlay-networking node (Tailscale / WireGuard). If you enable and configure overlay networking, your connection is established through the overlay-network service you configure, and that service’s own terms and privacy policy apply to your use of it. The App itself does not send your data to SpicyCorp.
Data retention
Data handled by the App — certificates, settings, and any captured session data — remains on your device until you delete it within the App or uninstall the App.
Security
Connections between devices use mutually-authenticated TLS (mTLS), and sensitive values are stored using the Android Keystore (hardware-backed where the device supports it). Because your data stays on your device and your own network, its protection also depends on the security of your device and the network you operate.
Permissions
The App may request permissions such as location (for position sharing and situational awareness) and network / nearby-device access (to run the local server and connect devices). These permissions are used solely to provide the App’s functionality on your device and network.
Children
Edge TAK Server is a professional tool intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version at this URL and revise the “Last updated” date above.
